'Charting the future with science' is the motive of this year's TEDxCERN event, asking 'What are the big ideas in science that will help us address tomorrow's major global challenges?'. The program is full of inspiring speakers from all around the world of which one, Srikumar Banerjee, speaks on Thorium Energy. TEDxCERN presents Srikumar Banerjee as a nuclear scientist and metallurgical engineer. He is the Indian Department of Atomic Energy’s Chair Professor at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Homi J. Bhabha, after whom the Centre is named, started India’s three-stage nuclear power programme in the 50s. It is one of the best-known efforts to develop thorium-based nuclear power, thorium having greater safety benefits, absence of non-fertile isotopes and higher occurrence and availability. Banerjee’s work provides the basis for analysing the microstructural evolution and radiation stability of structural materials in nuclear reactors. Live video with Srikumar Banerjee starts on the 24th of September at some time between 15:45 and 17:15 CET here. |
