What are the opportunities for future thorium-based power generation? This question will be discussed in a seminar organized by the famous Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. |
The seminar aims to give a vision of the possibilities of Thorium-based electricity generation. As this is partly based on new technology, the cost is still difficult to estimate. World's largest Thorium resources are found in India, Australia, Brazil and Sri Lanka. Norway also has large amounts of thorium, which is estimated to contain about 100 times more energy than all the country's oil deposits. Not far from where the seminar takes place is the Halden test reactor in Norway, where Thorium fuel is currently being tested. This is the first effort to license Thorium fuel to be used in existing reactors. The Seminar is held on Tuesday 19th of May in Gothenburg, Sweden at Chalmers University.
