China thinks they can solve these problems and make safer, more sustainable and less-polluting nuclear power.
The potential comes from the fact that we are using a technology that hasn’t been updated since the 50’s. Indeed, the MSR technology that would use Thorium as the fuel source would use almost 100% of the fuel, compared to the 5% of today’s Light Water Reactors.
The MSR’s still have issues that need to be solved. China thinks they can solve these problems and make safer, more sustainable and less-polluting nuclear power. They plan to have a functioning Thorium reactor within the next decade. |
