The ThEC13 in Geneva contributions from the world’s leading experts on thorium have now been compiled into a book. It is a unique collection of information of an energy source that can provide abundant, reliable and safe energy with no CO2 production, no air pollution, and minimal waste production. Hence the name: Thorium Energy for the World.

Let us hope that the publication of the proceedings of this symposium will help bring a more open and rational debate on the future of energy production and the advantages and disadvantages of various nuclear technologies. |
The contributors, representing 30 countries, included Carlo Rubbia, Nobel Prize Laureate in physics and inventor of the Energy Amplifier; Jack Steinberger, Nobel Prize Laureate in physics; Hans Blix, former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); Rolf Heuer, Director General of CERN; Pascal Couchepin, former President of the Swiss Confederation; and Claude Haegi, President of the FEDRE, to name just a few.
The ThEC13 proceedings is a 446-page source of reference on the use of thorium for energy generation. It offers detailed technical reviews of the status of thorium energy technologies, from basic R&D to industrial developments. It also describes how thorium can be used in various reactor types answering the most important and frequently asked questions: – Why is thorium so attractive and what is the role of innovation, in particular in the nuclear energy domain? – What are the national and international R&D programs on thorium technologies and how are they progressing? |
Thorium is one of the avenues we very much want to be explored |

Thorium Energy Conference 2013
ThEC13 was organized jointly by the international Thorium Energy Committee (iThEC), an association based in Geneva, and the International Thorium Energy Organisation (IThEO). It was held in the Globe of Science and Innovation at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland, in October 2013.

Thank You!
CERN: The organizers would like to express their gratitude to CERN for hosting the conference in the Globe of Science and Innovation, adding an invaluable symbolic value to the conference, and for providing additional infrastructure and personnel, which contributed to a stimulating and pleasant working atmosphere. ISAC: Our thanks also go to the International Scientific Advisory Committee for helping to shape the program and for proposing world-leading experts as speakers and authors of posters. Sponsors: We are indebted to our sponsors, who made it possible to select and invite appropriate speakers, some of them coming from far away, thus allowing a global and thorough overview of current thorium nuclear power activities in the world, and plans for future developments. Speakers: To the speakers themselves, we must express our appreciation and gratitude for their excellent presentations and for making the additional efforts to provide written contributions for the conference proceedings. Credit also goes to the authors of the posters, who contributed to the many interesting and exciting discussions, in particular during the coffee breaks, and also for their contributions to the proceedings. Participants: Finally we would like to warmly thank all the participants, who made this conference a success by contributing to the varied discussions and by creating the pleasant atmosphere that pervaded the scientific event and the various social activities. |
A special thank you goes to iThEC who has worked hard to collect all the material and published it together with Springer.
