Why Thorium?

There is an urgent call for a clean energy breakthrough or an ‘energy miracle’

In 2009, we established the organisation based on a feeling that something was wrong with the world’s energy approach, both for the past and the imagined future. The world was not on a path to solve the looming energy and environmental crisis. Now, in 2016, there is an urgent call for a clean energy breakthrough or an ‘energy miracle’ to stop climate change. Turns out that an energy infrastructure based 100 percent on renewables is becoming more and more unrealistic. Our gut feeling in 2009 was right and this is why we today publish our view on the path that was chosen in the early 21st century: 

Expectation Management: Renewables

IThEO is not against renewables. Quite the opposite - we believe they have a clear role in the world’s future energy mix. However, we need to be realistic and compensate for their intermittency, dilutedness and location dependency by developing a clean and scalable source of energy which delivers when and where we want it to.

What would be a good match to renewables? We have to come up with another energy solution that can supply the world’s growing demand for clean, safe and affordable energy. That solution already exists, but we need to accept it and commit to developing it. The solution is Thorium Energy:
